The day before your tour, at 7:30 p.m., passengers will be picked up from their hotel in downtown La Paz, and at 8:00 p.m. the bus will depart for Uyuni, arriving around 5:00 a.m. There, the local operator will meet you at the bus station, provide you with detailed information about the tour, and you can have breakfast on your own.
The adventure in the Salar de Uyuni begins at 10:30 a.m., with a visit to the train cemetery, an open-air museum that exhibits locomotives that brought Uyuni to life in times past, located just one kilometer from the town.
Next, we'll explore the Salar de Uyuni, where the landscape is breathtaking from the very beginning, all the way to Colchani, a town where salt is processed. There, we'll visit a small-scale salt refining facility, see mounds and blocks of salt, and browse a market selling handicrafts made from salt.
Lunch will be served on Fish Island, a spectacular spot in the middle of a white sea, surrounded by towering cacti, some over a century old. After lunch, there will be time to explore the island and capture breathtaking panoramic views from the summit.
In the afternoon, the tour continues across the salt flats to the remote area of Atulcha, which is also like a large island and is home to a famous hotel built with salt blocks, including furniture also made of salt.
At the end, there will be free time in Uyuni and at 7:30 p.m. the presentation will take place at the bus station.
Salar de Uyuni:
The Salar de Uyuni, the world's largest salt flat, covers 12,000 km² and is located 3,650 meters above sea level, in southwestern Bolivia, in the province of Daniel Campos, department of Potosí, within the high Andean region.
The majesty and solitude of the terrain, surrounded by mountains and volcanoes that rise to over 5,000 meters, make the landscape indescribable. The salt flats vary in depth from 10 centimeters to 8 meters and are estimated to contain some 10 billion tons of minerals. Furthermore, they hold one of the world's largest lithium reserves.
